Florida contractor license lookup
Whether you're checking a sub before you hire them or double-checking your own status hasn't lapsed, the fastest answer is the state's own record, not a listing site's summary of it. Search 95,780 license records read directly from Florida’s licensing board, by business name or license number.
What the license codes mean
A Florida contractor license number starts with letters that say what the holder is licensed to do. These are the codes behind the trades listed on this site:
| Trade | Codes | What the code stands for |
|---|---|---|
| Plumbers | CFCRF | Certified Plumbing Contractor; Registered Plumbing Contractor |
| Electricians | ECERESETEFEGEYEZEHEIEJ | Electrical Contractor; Registered Electrical Contractor; Certified Specialty Electrical Contractor; Registered Specialty Electrical Contractor; Certified Alarm System Contractor I; Certified Alarm System Contractor II; Registered Alarm System Contractor I; Registered Alarm System Contractor II; EH; EI; Registered Residential Alarm Contractor |
| Roofers | CCCRC | Certified Roofing Contractor; Registered Roofing Contractor |
| HVAC Contractors | CACRACMCRMCSCRS | Certified Air Conditioning Contractor; Registered Air Conditioning Contractor; Certified Mechanical Contractor; Registered Mechanical Contractor; Certified Sheet Metal Contractor; Registered Sheet Metal Contractor |
| General Contractors | CGCRGCBCRBCRCRRCUCRUSCCRX | Certified General Contractor; Registered General Contractor; Certified Building Contractor; Registered Building Contractor; Certified Residential Contractor; Registered Residential Contractor; Certified Utility & Excavation Contractor; Registered Underground Utility Contractor; Certified Specialty Contractor; Registered Specialty Contractor |
| Pool Contractors | CPCRP | Certified Pool & Spa Contractor; Registered Pool & Spa Contractor |
| Solar Contractors | CVCRV | Certified Solar Contractor; Registered Solar Contractor |
“Certified” licenses are valid statewide. “Registered” ones are limited to the local jurisdiction that issued the holder’s competency card. If you are checking whether someone can legally work on your address, that distinction is the one that matters.
Understanding license numbers
The number is the identity, not the business name. Names change, repeat across businesses, and get misspelled; a license number does not. If you are checking a specific company — especially before hiring — check the number, not just the name.
Understanding status
Status is a point-in-time snapshot, not a live feed. Our copy of the state’s file is current as of Sep 30, 2026, so a license that changed since then may show differently here than on the state portal. The state record is the authority whenever the two disagree.
What a license does and does not tell you
It says the state issued a license and what trade it covers. It says nothing about whether a job will go well, how the contractor prices work, or how responsive they are — this site does not rank or recommend anyone, and a license is not a substitute for checking references or reviews separately.
